With Halloween practically around the corner, it’s time to get your costume ready. Assuming you’re still out of ideas about who you want to be this year, one makeup artist might be of tremendous help, thanks to her amazing makeup tutorials on YouTube.
Her name is Goldie Starling and she calls her impressive body of work a “labor of love.” Her latest video shows women how to transform themselves into a Spider Queen using makeup products they already have lying around the house.
Check it out below, embedded at the end of this article.
“I think this one would be perfect for those of you who don't want to wear a ton of makeup but still want to be festive,” Goldie says.
By watching this tutorial and many others she’s posted on her channel, women can literally transform themselves into anything they set their mind to, whether it’s a pirate, a Jack the Ripper victim, a walking skeleton or, as the clip below shows, a Spider Queen.
Speaking with StyleList, Starling reveals that she doesn’t actually have any formal training as a makeup artist, but she does have Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Graphic Design and Computer Animation.
She’s done pretty much everything you can think of, from baking to drawing and sculpting. She loves drawing the most but she’s also very much into the art of applying makeup.
Inspiration for Starling is everywhere she looks and she promises that, by Halloween, she will provide even more tutorials for the occasion.
“I think a lot of the tutorials come out of paying tribute. For example I did a tutorial last year for Winifred Sanderson from Hocus Pocus. I grew up watching that movie and it defines Halloween to me,” she says.
“Characters like Morticia Addams and Lily Munster are just iconic. Sometimes I'll have an image flash up in my mind and I quickly sketch it and refine it. I try not to force it — the greatest enemy of creativity is time,” the artist adds.
Below is the clearest example that this is more than just makeup: it’s art.
