Crooks start relying on new techniques to spread their scams

Cyber fraudsters have started relying on paid Facebook advertisements to promote their Pinterest-themed scams.

Experts from Bitdefender noticed an ad, created by a site that promotes Pinterest bots, that promises to reveal ways of making money.

“Imagine you knew about Facebook advertising in 2006 when it was new. Now Pinterest gives you a chance to earn money online” reads one of the variants of the scheme.

Because paid Facebook ads allow their owners to “define their ideal audience” based on terms shared by other users, the crooks can launch targeted campaigns that will ensure the success of their malicious operations.

Pinterest, Facebook and probably every other social media website in the world put great efforts into containing spam, but it’s clear that cybercrooks are always one step ahead.

This is why users must beware of these plots and avoid any advertisement that sounds too good to be true.
