Urban Armor Gear launches cases for Microsoft's Surface tablets

Microsoft's Surface tablets are indeed made of vapor magnesium, which is said to be very strong when it comes to shocks and hits, but it appears that the folks over at Urban Armor Gear wanted even more than that.

As a result, they launched the first military spec cases for the Microsoft Surface Pro and Surface Pro 2, which basically make the two tablets extremely durable.

In an announcement rolled out today, UAG says that the new cases feature a soft tactile backing with Frogskin technology, which means that they provide excellent grip no matter the conditions. Even if it rains, you can still hold the Surface Pro 2 in your hands just right, without any risk of dropping it.

What's more, the case features a rubber core and bumpers that provide additional protection against powerful impacts, so if you drop the tablet or hit it by mistake (which, to be honest, sounds a little bit impossible), the Surface Pro would still be in tip-top shape.

“Utilizing UAG’s feather-lite construction, the patented form-fitting design adds minimal size and weight, maintains compatibility with the Microsoft Surface Pro Type Cover keyboard, and includes an integrated kickstand. The case is independently tested to meet military standards for drop and shock (MIL-STD 810G-516.6), a first for Microsoft Surface Pro cases,” UAG announces in a statement today.

“We take pride in providing world-class protection for Microsoft’s Surface Pro and Surface Pro 2 tablets, guaranteeing our customers Military Spec protection for their premium devices” says Steve Armstrong, co-founder of Urban Armor Gear. “With all this protection in such a stylish package, you can conquer any adventure the urban jungle throws at you.”

Although you might expect otherwise, the case is quite affordable and can be yours for only $59.95 (43.5 euros). It's only available in black, and the manufacturer has no plans to make any other colors available.

There's no doubt that many people would be pleased to install such an accessory on their Surface tablets, especially because it adds excellent protection to a device that was otherwise extremely durable.

That vapor magnesium case is already said to be pretty tough, with many customers confirming that the device was capable of withstanding severe shocks. Some have even claimed that their Surface tablets flew off their car roofs and they still worked perfectly, so even if these were only marketing stunts backed by Microsoft, they still confirm that the Surface is a tough tablet.
