On Friday, members of the ZCompany Hacking Crew (ZHC) – who teamed up with Anonymous for OpKashmir – warned that they would attack media companies because many of them have been silent regarding the incidents that take place these days in the Kashmir region.

One of their victims is Geo TV, a major Pakistani television network accused by the hacktivists of presenting their viewers with unimportant topics instead of covering the Kashmir conflict.

Besides Geo TV’s main website, the hackers defaced four other subdomains: tncms.geo.tv, videos.geo.tv, pics.geo.tv and live.geo.tv.

“Its been almost a week since Indian siege and curfew in Indian Occupied Kashmir and the Pakistani Media is busy in ‘Aman’ Ki Aasha. This Hack is a WakeUp Call (sic),” the hackers wrote in the defaced pages.

“Do you still need ‘Aman’ Ki Aasha when blood of your brothers and sisters is being spilled on the streets of Kashmir? Do you still desire ‘Aman’ Ka Tamasha when your brethren are caged in their homes and army troopers patrolling their streets, eager to shot down even an 8 year old who comes out?,” they added.

“While our brother Shaheed Afzal Guru was hanged in Tihar Jail-India, you were busy showing Horoscope on your channel, and same with other media, who were showing non-sense things at that time in the morning. Will you continue your treacherous silence over Kashmir Siege or you stand up for your Kashmiri brothers and sisters??”

At the time of writing, all of the affected websites have been taken offline. In the meantime, the hackers threaten that more Pakistani media organizations will be attacked in the upcoming period.

Before targeting Geo TV, ZHC breached several high-profile Indian websites, including the Nashik Municipal Corporation (nashikcorporation.gov.in), the Energy Minister of the Government of Rajasthan (mop.rajasthan.gov.in), and the one of the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference political party.
