Maingear has just announced the launch of what the company's claims to be the world's “most powerful” 3D 17-inch notebook, the eX-L 17 3D, which comes with an overclocked Intel Sandy Bridge Core i7 2920XM CPU and Nvidia GeForce GTX 485M discrete graphics.

The Core i7 2920XM is Intel's fastest mobile Sandy Bridge processor to date and it features four processing cores clocked at 2.5GHz (3.5GHz via Turbo Boost), 8MB of Level 3 cache memory and support for Intel's Hyper-Threading technology.

However, Maingear wasn't satisfied with the speed of this chip and decided to overclock it to 4.8GHz (in Turbo Boost mode), to deliver even better performance.

As mentioned earlier, graphics is handled by a discrete Nvidia GTX 485M GPU with 2GB of video buffer and support for Nvidia's 3DVision technology.

The powerful 17-inch notebook can also be configured to feature up to 16GB of DDR3-1600 RAM as well as two 2.5-inch drives (SSD, HDD or hybrid) for a total of 1.5TB of storage space.

The rest of the specs list includes a 120Hz 3D-enabled Full HD display, an integrated Bigfoot Networks Killer Wireless-N adapter, a built-in 3D emitter, a fingerprint scanner, HDMI and optical S/PDIF out, 7.1-channel HD audio with THX TruStudio support, a Blu-ray combo optical drive and an 8-cell battery pack.

"Offering a 3D enabled notebook is a great option for our customers, but offering the eX-L 17 3D that is 3D enabled and overclocked up to 4.8GHz with Intel’s mobile Sand Bridge processors and Nvidia's GTX 485M is even better," said Wallace Santos, CEO and founder of Maingear.

"We are constantly pushing the boundries and leading the way in luxury computing and the eX-L 17 3D is a testament to that commitment," concluded the company's rep.

Pricing for the Maingear eX-L 17 3D starts at $2,659 and the notebook is shipped together with a pair of Nvidia 3D glasses.
