A new search engine is now trying its luck on the market, being described as a more relevant technology than Google, the king of search. Mahalo, currently in Alpha stages, stands for the Hawaiian "Thank You". Its functionality is quite interesting because it is based on 40 guides who are continuously filtering the content provided by other search engines. Basically, the LA editors are selecting the results returned by Google for certain
keywords and publishes only the most relevant of them, showing only proper information according to the users' keywords. At this time, the search engine indexes approximately 4000 search results from Google, but the company aims to have at least 10.000 on December 31.
"Mahalo is the world's first human-powered search engine powered by an enthusiastic and energetic group of Guides. Our Guides spend their days searching, filtering out spam, and hand-crafting the best search results possible. If they haven't yet built a search result, you can request that search result. You can also suggest links for any of our search results," it is mentioned in the description of the service.
According to Mahalo's FAQ, the search engine will refuse to index spam websites, pages with a huge amount of adverts, phishing websites, copies, sites of unknown origine and the ones with adult content. However, Mahalo is based on the websites that are the leaders in their categories, the ones that provide original content and obviously all the clean pages that are useful for the visitors. At this time, there is only one restriction: the indexed websites must be older than one year or they will be marked as "member-submitted".
I admit that Mahalo is a brilliant idea, but think a little: what happens if one of the indexed websites is updated and infringes one of the guidelines? It must be removed and it's extremely difficult to track all the indexed pages, unless you have a powerful community of users to help you. So, Mahalo needs you, go
there and help it.
