Arrowhead Game Studios, the creators of Magicka, have announced that they are working on an yet-unannounced video game project which will use a set of fundamentally different mechanics.

The team is also working on a new game called Showdown Effect, which should be launched before the end of the year.

Emil Englund, one of the co-founders of Arrowhead Game Studios, has told Strategy Informer that, “We learned so much… I think the one thing we failed at really badly was planning. We failed to plan or estimate how much time the development would consume.

“Magicka worked fine in local co-op, but when it came to online… it was just abysmal. We’re really going to have to do this the right way this time.”

Showdown Effect will be offered on both the PC and the Mac and will support up to eight players. It is not clear whether the team at Arrowhead plans to deliver more content for Magicka in the future or it is working on a full sequel.
