Jeff Maggert managed to put an end to 7 years of unsuccessful golfing years and won the St. Jude Classic in Memphis Tennessee on Sunday. He managed to score a total of 271 points, after finishing the last session with a five-under-par 65. It was almost forever since he last time enjoyed a win in the PGA Tour. And now, it finally came for the 42-year old.
"I've struggled a little bit this year and the putter has really slowed me down. Today the putter definitely helped me through. It's been a strange career for me but I've had a great time playing golf out here. I would like to have won a few more times but I've had other priorities in my life, especially my family. But I'm very fortunate I can come out here and still win at 42", said the newly crowned champion of Tennessee golf.
He continued: "Because of my poor play this year, I didn't get into Colonial and I wasn't in Memorial until I won today. So I added this tournament because I've always enjoyed playing here. I came here last year. I saw the changes that were made and I knew the golf course was going to be good. Funny how things work out in this game. I was actually the first or second alternate at Colonial last week. If I would have gotten in, I probably wouldn't have been here".
The other players that managed to make a great impression in St. Jude were, beginning with the second overall, Tom Pernice, John Cook and Kris Cox.
It was an all-American top four, with Tom Pernice Jr. clinching the second position, after he was co-leading the tournament before the last session started. His 71 with six-under-par stopped him from doing that, but helped him stay 2 strokes before 3rd overall, last year's winner John Cook.
