Developers of Mageia, a fork of Mandriva Linux supported by a not-for-profit organization of recognized and elected contributors, have announced the Mageia 2 Alpha 3 release.

Mageia 2 Alpha 3 is a testing release for finding bugs, to look out for important missing packages, and most importantly a development platform for the community of Mandriva.

This latest version of Mageia comes with Linux kernel 3.2, but the final version will ship with a Linux kernel from the 3.3.x series.

The Linux kernel implemented in Mageia 2 Alpha 3 features improved virtualisation with Xen native support, a better performance, and a new subsystem, iSCSI stack or NFC.

Mageia 2 Alpha 3 also comes with several desktop environments, KDE SC 4.7.97 (4.8.x in final version), GNOME 3.3.3 (3.4.x in the final version), and LXDE.

A complete list of new and updates applications can be found in the official announcement.

Download Mageia 2 Alpha 3 right now from Softpedia. Remember that this is an alpha release and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended to be used for testing purposes only.
