Developers of Mageia, a fork of Mandriva Linux supported by a not-for-profit organization of recognized and elected contributors, have announced the Mageia 2 Alpha 2 release.

Mageia 2 Alpha 2 is a testing release for finding bugs, to look out for important missing packages, and most importantly a development platform for the community of Mandriva.

Mageia 2 Alpha 2 comes packed with the latest stable Linux kernel in the 3.1 series, but the final version of Mageia 2 should feature kernel 3.2.

The new Linux kernel added in Mageia 2 Alpha 2 offers support for better virtualisation with Xen, better security, and an improved performance.

Mageia 2 Alpha 2 also features KDE SC 4.7.4, GNOME 3.3.3, the most up to date LXDE packages, and Sugar 0.95. A complete list of changes can be found here.

Download Mageia 2 Alpha 2 right now from Softpedia. Remember that this is an alpha release and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended to be used for testing purposes only.
