Grazia admits to Photoshop blunder, insists the goal wasn’t to make Kate Middleton look thinner

Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton is very slim, so she definitely doesn’t need to have her photo altered to make her even thinner. Yet this is what Grazia magazine did on the cover of the issue celebrating her wedding to Prince William – even though the goal wasn’t necessarily to make her appear smaller.

In May this year, Grazia came out with a cover for the royal wedding special issue, showing Kate as she walked out of Westminster Abbey after getting married to Prince William (photo also attached to this article).

Viewers immediately noted that the lower part of her corset and the fabric of the skirt did not match, meaning someone had tampered with Kate’s upper body, which made her look thinner than she already was.

Initially, the magazine denied such allegations but, summoned before Press Complaints Commission, it is now forced to admit to the Photoshop blunder, the Daily Mail informs.

However, it wasn’t on purpose: that is, the goal wasn’t to make her thinner, but rather to cut Prince William out of the picture and make it look as if Kate was holding her bridal bouquet with both hands, which she wasn’t.

As it happened, the team responsible for this alteration, “chipped away” at Kate’s waistline a bit too, by mistake.

Grazia says it wanted “a great image of the duchess on her own, but all the photographs had the duke in too… so we asked our reproduction house to remove him from the picture,” the Mail informs.

“This would have left the Duchess with only one arm, so they copied over her arm to complete the picture,” a rep for the magazine explains.

Even with this blunder, Grazia remains committed to presenting a fair, accurate image of women.

“[Grazia] would like to reassure all our readers that we did not purposely make any alternations to the Duchess of Cambridge’s image to make her appear slimmer, and we are sorry if this process gave that impression,” the spokesperson further says.

The Commission confirms that this is the same story Grazia stuck to at the hearing, after complains where filed with regards to the photo.
