"Hung up" star will team up and perform with Gorillaz at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles next week. Organizers said the singer would appear with a 3D color animation of the cartoon band that will make the most "exciting Grammy moment".
While Madonna didn't receive any Grammy nominations at this year's music event, Gorillaz, a "virtual" band created by Blur frontman Damon Albarn, has been nominated for four Grammys. But Madonna can't complain about not being nominated, as she has previously won five.
The appearance of the Gorillaz band is expected to be in a 3D visual, first used at the MTV Europe awards in Portugal last year, but it is not yet known which track Madonna and Gorillaz will perform at the event.
The creator of the four cartoon "members" of the Gorillaz: 2D, Murdoc, Noodle and Russel is animator Jamie Hewlett, who admitted that they did not really exist only after their initial hits in 2001.
Some other entertainers to perform at the Grammy ceremony next week include Coldplay, Oscar-winning actor turned R&B singer Jamie Foxx and Christina Aguilera, Mary J Blige, Kanye West, Faith Hill, Keith Urban and Herbie Hancock. The evening will also feature a star-studded tribute to Sly And The Family Stone, including Maroon 5, British soul singer Joss Stone and the Black Eyed Peas.
Mariah Carey, rapper Kanye West and John Legend are leading the Grammy hopefuls, with eight nominations each. We'll find out who the winners are at the Grammys ceremony that will be held in Los Angeles on Wednesday, February 8.
