Madonna admits she’s “not happy” with M.I.A.’s indecent gesture at Super Bowl Halftime performance

Almost one week after her Super Bowl Halftime performance, Madonna is finally speaking out about the incident that has been keeping the media very busy these past few days: M.I.A.’s flipping the bird at the camera on live television.

As we also reported at the time, at the end of her verse on Madonna’s “Give Me All Your Luvin’,” M.I.A. looked into the camera and made the finger gesture, in a move that wasn’t caught on time by NBC and, as such, went uncensored.

People from the rapper’s camp have already issued an apology of sorts on the unofficial channels, saying she was too nervous and pumping with adrenaline to realize that the gesture was offensive and inappropriate for a family show / performance.

NBC and the NFL each tossed the blame on the other for not catching it in time, while apologizing to viewers who took offense.

All this time, people have been wondering how Madonna felt about it, since it was her Halftime performance that M.I.A. “ruined.”

Speaking with Ryan Seacrest on his radio show yesterday, the Queen of Pop revealed that she wasn’t happy with how things turned out – not in the least, as the video below will confirm.

“I was really surprised. I didn’t know anything about it. I wasn’t happy about it,” Madonna says.

The gesture was out of place and, what’s worse, distracted from the bigger picture: the message she was trying to send with her performance.

“I understand it’s punk rock and everything, but to me there was such a feeling of love and good energy, and positivity it seemed negative,” Madonna explains.

She doesn’t say that she expects M.I.A. to apologize or anything, but it’s implied.

“It’s such a teenager… irrelevant thing to do… there was such a feeling of love and unity there what was the point? It was just out of place,” Madonna concludes.

Previous reports claimed that she was “fuming mad” that M.I.A. stole her thunder, as we also noted.
