Last Wednesday at Jean Paul Gaultier haute couture show in Paris, Madonna was the one who received all the attention
and not the show itself.
The "Material Girl" was late, delaying the fashion show with no less than one hour. The audience waited for the diva to take her front row seat beside Spanish lothario Joachim Cortez, while the photographers were actually fighting for a shot of the singer. This created quite a big fuss, as a disappointment for Gaultier.
Despite the explosion of color influenced by Greece and Asia Minor that Gaultier’s new collection brought on the stage, Madonna showed up dressed all in black. Gaultier has lately been in close touch with Madonna, as he is working on the costumes for her next world tour.
"But the real goddesses on this show hailed neither from the screen nor catwalk, but Gaultier's fertile imagination, as he sent out Caroline Weinberg in a glove-like double breasted smoking, Eugenia Volodina in a Turkish potentate's cap and Michelle Alves in a wonderfully cut white suit, whose jacket had a colonnaded cut-out structure. Marija Vujovic came as a temptress Penelope in black mousseline and Jade Parfaitt as Cyclops in an ivory ensemble, her belly almost completely exposed" – the description of the Fashion Wire Daily online newspaper.
The other surprise of the designer was a selection of remarkable tassel belts in semi-precious stones and silk.
