The entire world is shocked and in mourning over the deaths of so many innocents in Paris, France, during and after the attacks on the offices of Charlie Hebdo, the satirical publication that drew the ire of Islamist extremists for showing drawings of the Prophet.

Some people have shown solidarity with the French nation and the victims’ families by sharing photos with “Je Suis Charlie” in white letters against a black background. Cartoonists from all corners of the globe have paid beautiful, heartbreaking tributes to the men who died “by the pen,” as it were, their only crime being satire.

Madonna only wants to promote her upcoming album.

The Queen of Pop is coming under serious fire online right now for sharing loving messages in the aftermath of the attacks but tagging them with the hashtag #rebelhearts, which is the one she’s been using heavily for a couple of weeks. That’s the name of her next album, as you probably guessed.

Her messages are on point and she has every right to add her own voice to the conversation that’s spreading to all forms of media, on religious intolerance and satire vs. offensive content. However, what she should NOT do is use this tragedy to push her album.

Imagine if Bradley Cooper had an Instagram account, and after the Taliban attack on a Pakistan school that killed over 130 children, in December, he’d posted: “War kills the innocent. #StopWar #AllTogetherNow #AmericanSniperOutInJanuary”

It’s the same thing. And it’s wrong.

These are very scary times we are living in. Ignorance breeds Intolerance and fear. We can only fight darkness with light! We are all Charlie! #revolutionoflove ❤️#rebelhearts A photo posted by Madonna (@madonna) on Jan 7, 2015 at 6:19pm PST
