Madonna says she doesn't hate Lady Gaga, denies leaked track is about their feud

Madonna and Lady Gaga have had a complicated relationship so far, to say the least. While the Queen of Pop has never made a secret of the fact that she considers Gaga a copycat / wannabe, Gaga has never expressed but the utmost admiration for Madonna, but at the same time, shut down all talk of imitation on her part.

So when a new track from Madonna’s upcoming “Rebel Heart” album, “Two Steps Behind Me,” leaked online, everyone assumed that she could only be talking about one person, Lady Gaga, and as such, that this was what they call in the industry a “diss track.”

Madonna’s manager Guy Oseary has denied this, saying that the track is about no woman in particular and least of all about Lady Gaga, with whom Madonna feels like she has nothing to share. Now it’s Madonna’s turn to do the same.

Stop the discrimination, stop the hate!

If you think that “Two Steps Behind Me” is about Lady Gaga, then you must have something against successful female entertainers because you’re trying to pit the two against each other, the singer rants in an Instagram post, which is attached to a new promo photo of her.

So, if you think that she’s dissing Gaga on the track, based on comments she made in previous interviews, it’s all in your mind and you’re projecting that onto her.

“There are those who want to shut me up but they cannot! We still live in a world that discriminates against women. Their are People that are so hateful. they want to create feuds between strong women that do not exist! I do not wish ill will towards any other female artist and i never have!” Madonna says.

“The World is big enough for all of us! I will fight for my rights as an artist, a human and a woman till the end of my days! Because I am a #rebelheart and I walk in the footsteps of giants and I will not apologize or defend my unpublished, unfinished, STOLEN work,” she continues, before urging whoever feels like leaving a negative response to this to just don’t, to just walk away.

Discrimination or not, but the feuding is real

Madonna does have a point: the celebrity culture loves nothing better than a good girl feud, and it does tend to create it when it’s not even there. However, to go as far as to say that hers with Lady Gaga is entirely made up is a bit reaching, because there is actual proof of it online.

For instance, when Gaga released “Born This Way” and everyone was talking of how much it resembled Madonna’s “Express Yourself,” in addition to the familiar feel all of Gaga’s appearances and costumes had because Madonna had done it all first, the Queen of Pop said in an ABC interview (second video below) that “Born This Way” was “reductive” and that, yes, it did sound very much like her own, older, and obviously better track.

With this in mind, you can still listen to “Two Steps Behind Me” below: she may deny it, but it does sound like Madonna is ripping into someone she considers nothing but a shameful copycat, a female singer who is desperately trying to be like her but only has the talent to get halfway to where she is.

Do you think she could be referring to Gaga?
