14 DAY TRIAL // Madonna nearly blew a fuse last week, when 11 demo tracks she’d been working on throughout 2014 leaked online. Some of these demos became songs that will be included on her upcoming album, which has been confirmed as “Rebel Heart.”
At first, the pop star tried to downplay her anger, thanking her fans for not listening to the leaked tracks and waiting for the album to come out, to check out the finished versions. Then, when it became clear to her that they weren’t going to do what she thought they would, Madonna got really angry.
In between smashing her iPod and making the whole thing into a tragedy, she also compared the leak to being artistically “raped” and a victim of “terrorism.” Not even when her own fans warned her that she should choose her words better did she backtrack.
Eventually, Madonna realized that the best way to keep her fans from listening to the leaked demos was to give them the finished songs, so she released 6 of them on iTunes.
“I was hoping to release my new single ‘Living for Love'’ on Valentine's Day with the rest of the album coming in the Spring,” she explained. “I would prefer my fans to hear completed versions of some of the songs instead of the incomplete tracks that are circulating. Please consider these six songs as an early Christmas gift.”
Of course, the “gift” isn’t for free, so fans have to pay for the songs. I should note though that unofficial versions are also spreading online fast, including on YouTube. Below is “Living for Love,” the official version, but you can find “[B-word] I’m Madonna” (ft. Nicki Minaj), “Illuminati,” and “Unapologetic [B-word]” as well.
“Living for Love” sounds like a solid club banger, but the other 3 aren’t exactly my cup of tea. Madonna has discovered Autotune and I’m not sure I like the result.
