Over the weekend, Madonna performed at the Super Bowl during Halftime, on what was definitely the most talked about performance of her career. It was, however, shaded by one particular incident, one that got her very upset.

As we also reported on Monday, at the end of her verse on Madonna's “Give Me All Your Luvin',” rapper M.I.A. gave the finger to the camera.

To make matters worse, her gesture wasn't caught on time by NBC, which failed to censor it. In other words, over 100 million people saw it live.

According to The Sun, Madonna is very upset at the younger performer because she upstaged her and, at the same time, ruined what could have been an epic show, one that would be the talk of the town for at least some months.

“The Queen of Pop had invited her on stage as a guest vocalist at the family American football event – the most watched program in US history with 111.3 million American viewers,” the British tabloid writes.

To put it differently, Madonna probably feels like she did M.I.A. a favor by inviting her to perform with her – one that she saw repaid in such a nasty manner.

“Madonna wasn’t impressed. She prides herself on professionalism,” an unnamed source says for the celebrity publication.

Moreover, the rapper made sure she didn't make the offending gestures during rehearsals.

“M.I.A did nothing similar in rehearsals. Nobody knew she was going to pull this stunt. Madonna wanted to put on a world-beating performance. But everyone ended up talking about this girl’s middle finger,” the insider explains.

Not even the though that M.I.A. could end up paying the FCC fine out of her own pocket is any consolation for Madonna, since she's left fuming because the rapper's gesture completely threw shade at her performance.

Since the Super Bowl, neither Madonna nor M.I.A. has officially addressed the controversy. The rapper's people, though, have been telling the local media that she's blaming her impulsive gesture on “nerves” and the adrenaline rush.
