The world knows Madonna as a very controversial artist and a woman who is not afraid to step on the toes of some to make a statement, no matter what it’s about. This is perhaps why the new shots for the Spring 2010 Dolce & Gabbana line, published in the Italian version of Vanity Fair magazine, come as such a shocker, as the New York Daily News also puts it.

Shot by Stephen Klein, the photos have Madonna as a fantasy wife doing the kind of stuff that, well, fantasy wives do while also looking extremely good. One shot, for instance, shows her eating pasta out of a bowl with her hand, while in another she’s sitting at the table, breaking a loaf of bread and preparing to eat it with the tomatoes nearby. In yet another seemingly spontaneous shot, Madonna is at the sink washing the dishes, while she’s yelling something over her shoulder.

Inspired by Neorealism cinema, the images are not that far-fetched, designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana say for the Italian magazine, as cited by the NY Daily News. Madonna, unlike the image the world has of her, is quite a regular housewife, the say. And, yes, she does do the dishes and she does indulge in the occasional bowl of pasta, they insist; after all, she deserves a treat like pasta every now and then given the kind of effort she puts in working out every single day of her life.

“Madonna will wash dishes, but only for Dolce & Gabbana. The luxe Italian brand’s new spring / summer 2010 campaign features a very domesticated Madge doing everyday household chores. Inspired by Italian neorealism cinema, the prints have the Material Girl playing a fantasy housewife: prepping dinner, eating pasta and rinsing plates while wearing expensive, low-cut designer dresses,” the NY Daily News says.

“‘To have Madonna in our campaign is a dream come true,’ designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana tell the Vanity Fair’s Italian edition, where the pictures debut this week. ‘She loved the collection,’ added Gabbana. ‘She is passionate and impressively knowledgeable about Italian cinema.’ Celebrity photographer Stephen Klein took the glossy black and white shots in New York City on Nov. 6,” the publication adds.
