Even if we're not all die-hard fans of Madonna's music or lifestyle, we can't help but look at her ultra-fit physique (minus the veiny hands, some would say) with a twinge of envy and wonder how she manages to keep herself so slim and yet so energetic. Some may argue that since she's such a versatile, world famous entertainer, it's part of her job to look good - however, while the "why" may be anyone's guess these days, the "how" is not that big a secret anymore. The answer to Madonna's enviable silhouette?
A short-term diet that ensures a weight loss of 3 to 5 pounds a week over six weeks, combined with one to two-hour workout routines six times a week. "It's perfectly healthy", Madonna's trainer Tracy Anderson told US Weekly. "My formula works on everyone as long as they're consistent", adds the personal trainer, who has a studio in L.A and promises she can shape pretty much any body into a "teeny-tiny dancer type". The key to Anderson's fitness regime (and the key to Madonna's ultra-fit physical shape) is to constantly change the routine and mix dancing with other types of cardio training (such as treadmill sprints, jumping rope or running on a trampoline) as well as various other types of crunches and weight lifting. The constant switching will prevent any group of muscles from bulking up.

|
As for the aforementioned diet, it bans processed food, dairy and just about all kinds of spices, which Anderson says are "bloating and upset your digestive system, which causes you to store fat", as well as any oil and sauce intake. Alcohol and caffeine are out of the question. The daily water intake, on the other hand, should be between 1.5 to 3 liters. Also, Anderson recommends only one serving of whole-grain carbs a day, preferably in the morning. Have a look at what Madonna has to eat on two separate days of her diet and make up your mind if you could bring yourself to stick to it, too. Keep in mind that while you don't have to eat the same thing every day, you can only mix and match complete days' menus if you feel your eating routine is getting too boring. Enjoy. Sample daily menu 1Breakfast1 cup Kashi (wholegrain) cereal, with cup plain - or vanilla - nonfat rice milk Lunch3 oz grilled chicken breast - or fresh turkey breast (no deli meat!) - with cup each of chopped cucumber and tomatoes Snack1 cup mixed berries (preferably raspberries, blackberries and blueberries) Dinner1 cup organic pasta with cup steamed spinach Sample daily menu 2Breakfast1 cup Kashi cereal, with cup plain-or vanilla-nonfat rice milk Lunch2 hardboiled eggs with cup each of baby carrots and cherry tomatoes Dinner3 to 5 oz grilled sea bass with cup steamed spinach

| Comment #1 by: joy on 09 Jan 2009, 20:23 UTC | reply to this comment | This diet will cause you to lose weight, and working out will firm and tone, but the absence of all fat will age your face. Just look at Madonna, her face looks older than it should. Of course, plastic surgery ages a face, also. Just makes you smooth and tight. But the face needs some fats, otherwise you have to run to the dr to have it injected. A little fat in M's diet, like olive oil, avocados, etc. will do wonders for her face. Can you picture her after 10 more years of this? UGH! |
| Comment #1.1 by: jeff on 29 Sep 2009, 19:10 GMT | I agree...I dont eat dairy ( including eggs and chicken) but eat olive oil, avacado and so on...have lost tons of weight but totally agree with the age thing..I did a weight loss thing about 4 years ago ( body for life routine) and everyone said my face looked old. didnt eat the things you mentioned then. |
| Comment #2 by: just Me on 29 Mar 2009, 02:11 UTC | reply to this comment | hm...her diet is actually "disappointing". It is not concentrated on anti-aging nutrition/prevention at all. And I agree with a previous poster - some omegas/oils in her diet would be very beneficial - look and health wise. |
| Comment #2.1 by: Sugar on 04 Jul 2011, 14:40 GMT | Madonna is a very smart business-woman and an excellent support team monitors every aspect of her life. I agree that this diet is very poor and unhealthy and we should not copy literally! I suppose that there must be some kind of supplements to go with this like vitamins, etc.., otherwise Madonna would probably become very sick. But she surely knows very well what she is doing and we are all witnesses of her great appearance! |
| Comment #3 by: Benjamin on 08 May 2009, 20:10 UTC | reply to this comment | I've seen some actual video's depicting the types of work out's that Madonna does with Tracey Anderson, and they are life changing. Not only will you slim down to a teeny tiny bod, but your energy levels will sore! This is not actually Madonna's diet, and never really was. Madonna has to take in almost 2500 calories a day to keep up with all of her activities. If you can follow a macrobiotic diet then you could have the same amount of energy and slim figure as Madonna! It's all in the diet so go organic everything now! |
| Comment #4 by: Stephanie Colbert on 27 May 2009, 23:18 UTC | reply to this comment | It's no surprise she loses 3-5 pounds on this diet, short term: it's only about 700 to 800 calories! This type of diet won't provide the essential vitamins and minerals an active person needs. |
| Comment #5 by: Josh Weinstein on 19 Jun 2009, 00:43 UTC | reply to this comment | Thats way too little food for a day. She's also only having about 100kcal from fats, whereas it should be ~800kcal. And she's over emphasising on the vegetables, no wonder with such a poor diet she is as emaciated as she is.
Even Kelly Ripa with her completely fat-free body eats more.... |
| Comment #6 by: fafa on 28 Jul 2009, 19:44 UTC | reply to this comment | I am scared for her are we going to see anohter star die in thier fifties.
What a shame. |
| Comment #7.1 by: zoe on 02 Oct 2009, 15:17 GMT | Actually she doesn't seem healthy in my eyes, her diet isn't good shes a grown women and thats all shes eating?
oh dear
im not jealous i would rather be my size and have a femiie phsqiue rather than hers shes too manly |
| Comment #8 by: Lenore Gajda on 08 Aug 2009, 17:17 UTC | reply to this comment | First of all...I agree with the last comment by ISOL...YOU ARE ALL JEALOUS!!! No matter who you are, skinny or fat, old or young, you can not tell me you don't see her and say, "she is in her 50's and wow, I would like to look like her!!" I have been a fan of Madonna since I was in my teens, and I have only known her to be 100% health conscious and extremely active and fit! She is a brilliant business lady as well as an amazing person and mother! She is extremely creative, which is why she has such a successful career, and she lives an exciting lifestyle, which most women desire. She would not harm her body as she has proven that she is very dedicated to living a healthy and fulfilled life, which most north American people DO NOT do. Most North American people eat poor nutritional food that is filled with chemicals and preservatives that are foreign to our bodies, creating an appearance of unhealthy individuals. This is why obesity is on the rise as well as cancer along with all kinds of health disorders. I guarantee that if you looked at Madonnas medical history, she would would be the true picture of health! If she was lacking anything she would not have the energy levels that she has, and she would eventually get sick. She is going to be around a long time for all of you fat, unhealthy jealous people to be annoyed with!! Have fun looking at her photos and dreaming to be just like her while you fill you fat, unhealthy bodies with crap food! Put your fork down and exercise and you may not be so negative when you see someone like her, and instead she should inspire you!!!! I would love to be a fly on the wall when Madonna reads this type of negative stuff about her, she must have a great laugh at all you pathetic losers - like what you have to say matters to her |
| Comment #8.1 by: madonnamaniac on 17 Sep 2010, 20:40 GMT | VERY WELL SAID.MADONNA IS THE QUEEN OF THE UNIVERSE. |
| Comment #8.2 by: Isol on 14 Oct 2010, 02:43 GMT | Thanks Lenore!!! Do you people know how * is for a woman to build muscles??? Please, she must have to be eating super healthy. Of course, she has her chef and her meals prepared just as she wants and needs, but is impossible for Madge to have that kind of arms, or legs, if she doesn't eat properly. Just see the P90X program diet, is a lot of calories daily, almost 2500, but calories that come from the specific food. Ugly and anorexic might look Paris Hilton, but please Madge looks great and healthy. To follow a diet and excercise routine people need lots of DISCIPLINE. And people who are unable of having that always talk negative about people who do. For me, she looks excellent. I wish I will look like that at 50... and I am working on it. :) |
| Comment #8.3 by: JoJoDancer on 02 Aug 2011, 04:09 GMT | * please! Like your opinion matters to anyone out here either. |
| Comment #8.4 by: MsBelvadere on 02 Aug 2011, 05:22 GMT | Like what you have to say matters as well. Talk about pathetic losers! You are obviously an extremely rude individual judging by your comments. Just because some people don't happen to agree with this diet or think Madonna is the most attractive woman in the world doesn't mean they are jealous of her. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! Give me a break! And you speak like you know Madonna personally which I'm sure you don't. So stop trying to act like she is your best friend in the world! Why don't you put your picture out here and let us see what you look like? And no Madonna is not the Queen of the Universe. What the hell is wrong with you people? Worshiping a * singer/celebrity like she is some kind of God or something. Well, news flash! She is human! Regardless of what Madonna eats or how much she exercises she is going to age. Everybody does. You don't think there is gray hair under that hair dye and those wigs she wears? And yes she does have a few wrinkles here and there, to be expected at her age. And eventually she will die too like everybody does. Also a lot of how fast people age is due to heredity and not just exercise and diet. GET A GRIP FOLKS! |
| Comment #8.5 by: dropandroll on 30 Aug 2011, 02:39 GMT | you don't really think MADONNA gives a f*** what anyone thinks, do you? |
| Comment #9 by: missgreen on 22 Aug 2009, 04:16 UTC | reply to this comment | This is a very disturbing meal plan. Neither days amount to at least a 1000 calories. It is one thing to be fit and HEALTHY, through proper diet and exercise. But it is another thing to have an eating disorder and to malnourish your body. If the information stated above is true, then this is a classic example of ANOREXIA NERVOSA. I doubt she is eating this little if she is exercising as much as you say. |
| Comment #10 by: Tony on 25 Aug 2009, 08:14 UTC | reply to this comment | Come on! Really? This is not her diet. Ridiculous. Furthermore, there is no healthy fat. This is not her diet I assure you. Please buy a clue. This type of eating will destroy your body & give your skin and hair a punishment! Let me help... Anything with ANY derivative of corn syrup is the devil to the body. Do not eat any processed foods. Use allot of honey as your sweetener. The more vegetables the better. Fruits are essential, however limit them. Meat? Absolutely!!! Again, moderation. Zero pork. Drink water, half gallon a day fine. Coffee? Sure… Keep to one cup a day. ZERO MILK!!! Eggs, Yes… A tiny bit of cheese here and there. Stop being stupid people. Just look at the diet of people in the 50’s and 60’s… Were they fat in general? NO |
| Comment #11 by: madame x on 10 Sep 2009, 19:59 UTC | reply to this comment | I agree that this is not Madonna's diet. In order to achieve the lean body mass with her muscle tone she is working out often (and lifting heavy weights. Accordingly, she is likely taking in more like 1800-2000 calories. For years she has confirmed that she eats a STRICT macrobiotic diet as a prevention of cancer since her mother had the disease and she wants to do all she can to avoid it. Macrobiotic followers avoid poultry and meat with some eating fish but only 2-3 times per week. Load up your plate with at least 1/2 of it leafy vegetables, the rest with whole grains, other vegetables like squashes, sweet potatoes etc. and you will be fine. Remember Jack LaLanne's line if man made it DON'T EAT IT! |
| Comment #12 by: Has Knowledge on 27 Sep 2009, 23:50 UTC | reply to this comment | This article is not truth... It states no dairy on the diet but then shows on the meal plain, da |
| Comment #13 by: jeff on 29 Sep 2009, 19:07 UTC | reply to this comment | She doesnt eat dairy?...what about the chicken and eggs you suggested?.... |
| Comment #14 by: claire on 02 Oct 2009, 06:49 UTC | reply to this comment | pffff chicken and eggs aren't dairies!!! make sure u know wat u're talkin about b4 leavin any comments, it will prevent u from makinb a fool out of yourself... |
| Comment #15 by: claire on 02 Oct 2009, 06:52 UTC | reply to this comment | that's total bull!!! there's nooooooooo way she could've built all that muscle on such a diet!!! Not only is it extremely lacking in calories, but look at the proteins!!! that's like 40grams a day!!! she would at LEAST need 1g/lb of body weight to build muscle!!! |
| Comment #16 by: Shayeen on 02 Oct 2009, 17:33 UTC | reply to this comment | Am 42 yrs old. Madonna has been my model for years, since we have exactly the same height 5 ft 2. I have weight 50 kilos up to 35 yes old. Presently I weight 60 kilos. A bit heavy on the middle. But after 3 yrs of laziness am back to the gym for good. I have 6 meals a day with an intake of less than 2000 calories. If I loose some weight ,that fine if not, just too bad. as long as I am tone with a nice abdomen. My point is: we only have one life. Y the hell punished ourself with such a drastic diet? So sad, so boring. Don't tell me u like it. Lack of fat bring join pain, oestheroposis etc. Am sure a smart women like madonna know that. So y ....? |
| Comment #16.1 by: Ava on 27 Apr 2011, 11:44 GMT | Madonna is 5 ft 4 |
| Comment #17 by: marissa on 12 Oct 2009, 17:10 UTC | reply to this comment | this diet isn't the best ....
I suggest eating more raw veggies rather then juice them.
Wheat Grasses Barley Grasses.
Buckwheat Groats. Organic.
Wheat Germ is a superfood as well.
More nuts and seeds, daneloin greens, sockeye salmon ....
some grass fed red meat on occasion is fine.
Some organic yogurt is o.k sometime. You need a probiotic.
I look at least ten years younger then my age or more.
No surgury.
I don't go in the sun alot or at mid day ..I make sure I have vitamin D3 supplimentation ...and D2
I think I look better then Madonna and much younger then my age naturally.
I also work out, do yoga, dance alot, walk, hike, run and bike..cross country ski.....
and listen to world music....and people who have talent....
I am into Reiki healing, sound healing....and talent is something that helps heal when you hear them..

| Comment #18 by: Alliecat on 07 Mar 2010, 04:19 UTC | reply to this comment | You have to figure out what works for you.
For me you just need to work hard in the gym
and have your cheat days. It still keeps
your body where you want it.
My opinion is to eliminate as much sugar, carbs and fat
that are unneccesary. Never eat bread, white rice or
regular pasta. Only eat natural foods. That is what
we are meant to eat. Such as fish, vegetables, seeds, nuts
and fruits. Anything man made will make you fat. |
| Comment #19 by: Dana on 09 Mar 2010, 19:38 UTC | reply to this comment | I'm a personal trainer and nutritionist and I highly doubt this is really Madonna's diet she is way too active and that is not even enough calories for one day for a highly active person not getting all her vitamins/protein/carbs. She would need this to sustain all the muscle this diet kinda sucks really... Looks to me more like the, “OMG you guys I totally had more than 300 calories today! That’s so not sexy…” plan. |
| Comment #20 by: LU on 23 Mar 2010, 03:47 UTC | reply to this comment | i am a nutritionist and i can guarantee you 100% that this is not Madonna's diet. there is no way you can survive on such a little amount of calories and keep as active as she does. A full comprehensive diet allows for a little fat and a pinch of salt to keep your muscle healthy. Madonna's muscles are too developed for this meagre diet and for these muscles to maitain this tone it takes a good amount of protein, backed up by a reasonable amount of carbs. I have been in this business for 9 years and I am 100% sure that this is not her diet. |
| Comment #21 by: Tlls on 02 Apr 2010, 14:30 UTC | reply to this comment | There is no way that diet plan is all madonna consumes. It's just lacking in one too many things from whatever perspective your looking at. aka impossible to maintain any sort of good health without adequate lipid intake, spices such as chili, capsicum, etc actually burn fat and are great for digestion & protein absorption whilst "whole grain pasta" IS a completely processed food. lol You can't grow pasta...
Am i the only one that noticed spinach and rice milk repeated twice in one day? Not very creative... lol
The whole story hasn't been told with that as it's a good way to get clients through advertising in such a mass medium for the trainer...
Madonna has more than one trainer, several in fact for almost every type of exercise she does, more than one expert for her nutrition etc.
Her face actually is very age appropriate & I dare say much better than any other 51 year old i know (yes money can help but still i think the people making the "she's older than she looks comments need to take a good hard look at themselves in a leotard in stage lighting POINT MADE.) |
| Comment #23 by: lc on 28 May 2010, 11:15 UTC | reply to this comment | madonna looks great, no doubt the people that criticise are bitter they're not looking the same. As for the gormless who believe her diet is lacking - how do you know this is her diet? no citation at all provided with this article. i'd criticise the information provided before madonna; just look at her body! If she was to release a health book/dvd - i like many others would rush out to buy it! |
| Comment #24 by: madonnamaniac on 17 Sep 2010, 20:41 UTC | reply to this comment | MADONNA LOOKS AMAZING.WE ADORE YOU QUEEN MADONNA. |
| Comment #25 by: littleleers on 24 Sep 2010, 14:54 UTC | reply to this comment | Madonna's trainer is nuts. That diet is a starvation diet for someone who works out as long and as hard as Madonna does. As a woman ages, it is NOT flattering to lose too much body fat or subcutaneous tissue. Muscles are beautiful on a woman, but not to the exclusion of all subcutaneous fat!
I am almost 60, and have a routine that varies, too. I have been told that I do not look my age. I make sure that I do include "healthy fats" and to consume enough calories throughout the day. I have lost weight and have to make sure I do not lose more. The result is a fit figure and lots of compliments and several people who have inquired what my workout routine is. |
| Comment #25.1 by: Madge on 07 Jun 2011, 20:58 GMT | Agreed. As if Madonna would be stupid enough to follow such an unhealthy diet, she's got a multi-million pound enterprise to protect and she couldn't possibly do what she does with that ridiculous calorie intake and lack of nutrients. One doesn't acquire as much fitness expertise and experience as Madonna (who in her time has been and probably still is as fit as a professional athlete) and fail to learn about effective nutrition at the same time. This diet hardly contains any nourishment and would certainly not support her exercise routine. Besides, although she's clearly dedicated, the woman never struck me as someone who would deny herself the pleasure of food either, and with her exercise programme she could well afford to eat simply for pleasure every now and again - and that generally means fats and perhaps even sugar. In my humble opinion, this article is not only inaccurate, it is irresponsible. |
| Comment #26 by: SandyLand on 30 Sep 2010, 21:15 UTC | reply to this comment | So she eats to live.. Doesn't live to eat. |
| Comment #26.1 by: baker on 06 Feb 2012, 09:02 GMT | yes and I do the same.
I told my Doctor I wish I can just eat every other day lol
eating is such a chore now at 47 trying to maintain. I fear gaining. |
| Comment #27 by: Scoobeedoo on 27 Oct 2010, 22:02 UTC | reply to this comment | Yeah sexy lady love her veins in her hands looks strong and capable .not like most pathetic women . |
| Comment #28 by: vril on 24 Jul 2011, 16:52 UTC | reply to this comment | I thought Madonna was a vegetarian? at least she was for 40 years... This article is a crock and likely an advertisement for Kashi cereal and frankly a chipmunk would loose weight on this plan |
| Comment #30 by: madonnafan on 18 Sep 2011, 20:07 UTC | reply to this comment | Good grief! I don't think Madonna looks old. She was born in 1958 and is therefore 53 years old. I don't know anyone who looks that great at 53. Cut the woman a break. This is her short term WEIGHT LOSS diet not her daily diet. I'm quite sure she eats more than this on a regular basis. |
| Comment #31 by: HARRAH on 20 Oct 2011, 00:05 UTC | reply to this comment | WHEN U HVE MONEY, U CAN LOOK LIKE HER TOO. AND DATE DATE 2O YEAR OLD BOY TOYS. WHEN YOURE POOR, FORGET IT. SHE CAN AFFORD TOP NOTCH VITAMINS AND ORGANIC FOODS. SHE ALSO HAS ASSISTANTS TO DO ALL HER CHORES AND ERRANDS, SO SHE DOESNT NEED TO EAT, SHE DOESNT DO ANYTHING BUT LOOK LOOK PRETTY AND * ALL DAY. |
| Comment #32 by: Baker on 06 Feb 2012, 08:54 UTC | reply to this comment | After watching superbowl I am amaze how she keeps it up at 53-54?? That is Amazing- a ton of energy!! I'm very discipline with my diet and workout. My bodyfat today and 8 years ago is about the same 19% and I'm 47. But is not easy. I mostly eat sea or food off the ground. 35% of my diet is fats (good fats) that is calculated by my dietitian after doing some bloodwork. I don't count calories instead awareness I believe is the key. Eating Naturals instead of boxed, processed, canned, factory made. I start my day with 30 grams of protein and have some type of protein every 4 hours about 20-30 grams. I eat a tons of nuts. The only stuff I drink is water, tea from tea bag, milk/soy that is as per my dietitian. No juices in any form because of sugar. My dietitian says fruits are meant to be eaten lol |
| Comment #32.1 by: chickbone on 07 Feb 2012, 01:30 GMT | Baker, How to measure 30g of protein? Is it by scale? I want to try your method. | |
