Today may be April Fools, but Warner Bros. isn’t joking around: the studio has unleashed a brand new main trailer for its May release, the big-budget “Mad Max: Fury Road” with Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron as leads. And it’s bigger, better, more violent and more beautiful than anything you’re likely to see this year.

“Fury Road” is a remake of the classic “Mad Max,” with George Miller returning as director. He is a man with a distinctive style and nowhere is that more apparent than in this new preview, which is so action-packed you might actually need a couple of viewings to process everything happening before your eyes.

Tom Hardy revealed in his latest Esquire interview that he’s barely got 20 lines in the entire movie, which should give you an idea of what you should expect: “Fury Road” presents a violent, ruthless, absurd world in which all hope is lost, and Miller has gone to great lengths to bring it to the screen for us.

Beautiful and terrible sandstorms, vehicular mayhem and outrageous costumes (and makeup), insane acrobatics and hair-raising music, and way more explosions than you could count await in this May 15 release.

Miller has previously said that his intention was to have the movie play out like one insane, continuous car chase. From the looks of this new trailer, he wasn’t lying: this is a very absurd and visually stunning creation he’s signed his name to.

“Mad Max: Fury Road” might not be to everyone’s tastes, but it will surely make the fans of the genre very, very happy. Guaranteed.
