It took years for a new, rebooted “Mad Max” to arrive on the big screen, but when it finally does, it will have done so with the director of the original films on board, George Miller. “Mad Max: Fury Road” has nothing else in common with the original franchise, but that doesn’t mean that you should forget about it.

In fact, Warner Bros. wants you to remember the previous installments, as it becomes clear once you watch the latest (and probably final) trailer for “Fury Road,” aptly titled “Legacy.”

You can find it embedded in full and in HD below: it ties the upcoming film to the original ones by including footage of Mel Gibson as the titular character. You’re not expected to know more about him, since this new trailer is more like a knowing wink for fans of the old franchise, except that “all the madness has led to this.”

“Fury Road” sees Tom Hardy as Max in what will be his first big-budget leading role, with Warners hoping it might reboot the franchise. Opposite Hardy, you will see Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult and Zoe Kravitz, though you might have some trouble recognizing them in this video, underneath all those layers of makeup and dust.

If you like what you see, check your listings soon: “Fury Road” opens wide starting May 15.
