New preview plays out like a random edit of violent action scenes, with very little dialog and very little storytelling

George Miller, the director of the original cult classic “Mad Max,” with Mel Gibson as lead, did warn us that his new revision of the story, with Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, “Mad Max: Fury Road,” which also happens to be one of the most anticipated releases of the summer of 2015, would be different than most other action films.

The new trailer released for it shows just that: it’s not so much a trailer put together to tell a story as rather a random edit of violent action scenes meant to evoke a feeling and the atmosphere of this world where the desperate struggle to find water comes second only to the search for oil.

So what we get instead of a “typical” trailer is a succession of violent tableaux, with outstanding and obviously CGI-ed explosions (who thought stuff could blow up in so many ways?!), insane car chases, and purposely silly taglines and odd music choices.

What stands out the most about it isn’t the level of sheer insanity displayed in it, but the attention to detail and the originality of each element. Sure, this is a reboot too, but at least it will strive to leave a mark and not settle for being yet another remake that rides the coattails of an infinitely superior original.

Miller also said a while back that the first act of the film plays out like a continuous action scene and that viewers are expected to pick up on the story as they go along, because it won’t be fed to them the traditional way. Again, this is confirmed by the new trailer.

“Mad Max: Fury Road” stars Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Zoe Kravitz, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and Riley Keough. Hardy and Theron’s names should be enough to draw in a large audience, and if that fails, there’s always this insane trailer to do the job. Enjoy!
