Warner Bros. has released the final official trailer for its upcoming release, George Miller’s reboot of the “Mad Max” franchise with Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron and Nicholas Hoult in the leads, “Mad Max: Fury Road.”

Hardy takes over from Mel Gibson in the Max role, made iconic with the first film in the series, out in 1979. Just like in the original franchise, “Fury Road” will show that Max is not the lead in the story: he just happens to stumble into trouble, acting as an agent for others who need someone to rally behind of.

In “Fury Road,” the lead in the story seems to be Imperator Furiosa, played by a bald-headed, robotic-armed, very dirty Charlize Theron. She is the one who feigns delivering a truck of “guzzoline” to the marauders from whom she stole a few slaves, as we’ve seen in previous promos.

From what we can make from the older and the newest videos, she is the one who sets everything in motion by this, with the movie playing out like a wild chase through the desert to get her. Max is just tagging along for the ride, helping her out.

The fact that this franchise is being rebooted with George Miller, who also wrote the screenplay for and directed the original films, is a plus for fans. They will find several elements in this new trailer that will remind them of the beauty of the older films, including the wind-up music box that appeared in the second film (1981), when Max gave it to the Feral Kid.

“Fury Road” will be out in most theaters starting May 15.
