Mactracker, the freeware reference tool developed by Ian Page, has received a new maintenance update, adding new Apple products. As usual, Page is rather late including Apple’s newest products in his reference app, but the additions are always welcome, whenever they arrive. Mactracker is a very useful tool for Apple fans, tech-journalists, etc.

Mactracker The program provides detailed information on every Apple Macintosh computer ever made, as well as other Apple products, such as the iPhone and iPod, and accessories / peripherals. The program offers information such as processor speed, memory, optical drives, graphics cards, supported Mac OS versions, and expansion options. For computers, information on Apple mice, keyboards and displays is also included, as is for printers, scanners, digital cameras, iPods, Apple TVs, iPhones, Wi-Fi Cards/Base Stations, Newton, and Mac OS versions.

Using MacTracker, you can also get information on the performance of the systems and gauge the real-world performance with scores courtesy of Primate Labs Geekbench 2. User-submitted benchmarks are available for models ranging from iBook (Dual USB) to MacBook Pro (Mid 2009). The latest version of the software, Mactracker 5.1, brings the following changes:

· Adds iMac (20-inch, Mid 2009); · Adds iPad; · Adds Compare function to highlight differences between models; · New search engine searches all specification entries from the main window; · Adds introduction price, where available, in Australian dollars, Japanese yen, Swedish kronor, and Swiss francs; · Updates Support Status for Apple's latest Vintage and Obsolete products; · Fixes an issue that would cause Mactracker to crash when adding a new contact to "My Models" under Mac OS X 10.6; · Fixes an issue where certain characters would cause incorrect search results; · Other minor changes and additions.

In addition to the aforementioned features, Mactracker offers the ability to create customized categories. Users can do this by selecting a specification item such as the processor type, date introduced or a color label. A search engine browses the entire database (including comments) and allows users to sort the results by model name, date, or specification.
