Developer Ian Page has updated his freeware reference app for Mac OS X, Mactracker. The program provides detailed information on every Apple Macintosh computer ever made, as well as other Apple products, such as iPhone and iPod, and accessories / peripherals.

According to the release notes, MacTracker 5.0.10 adds the third-generation iPod touch (Late 2009), iPod classic 160GB (Late 2009), iPod nano (5th generation) and iPod shuffle (3rd generation / Late 2009), as far as new products are concerned. Other new additions include: search fields for adding Smart Categories and My Models now return "live" results, as well as other minor changes and additions, according to Ian Page. The new version also fixes an issue where Mactracker would report an "attempt to pop an unknown autorelease pool" error to Console on Mac OS X 10.6, as well as some issues with "Full Keyboard Access". According to the developer, this version installs only on Mac OS X versions 10.4 (Tiger) or later (including Snow Leopard).

Mactracker offers information such as processor speed, memory, optical drives, graphics cards, supported Mac OS versions, and expansion options. For computers, information on Apple mice, keyboards and displays is also included, as is for printers, scanners, digital cameras, iPods, Apple TVs, iPhones, Wi-Fi Cards/Base Stations, Newton, and Mac OS versions. Using MacTracker, you can also get information on the performance of the systems and gauge the real-world performance with scores courtesy of Primate Labs Geekbench 2. User-submitted benchmarks are available for models ranging from iBook (Dual USB) to MacBook Pro (Mid 2009).

Mactracker offers the ability to create customized categories by selecting a specification item such as the processor type, date introduced or a color label. A search engine browses the entire database (including comments) and allows users to sort the results by model name, date, or specification.
