One of the most iconic wrestlers of all times is no more: Randy Savage, aka Macho Man, crashed his car hours ago and died in hospital from the injuries sustained. Alcohol was not a factor, it would seem.

Randy Savage was just 58 years old and, as noted above, was one of the best-known wrestlers of all times: he was famous for his catchphrase “Ooooh yeeaaaah,” his colorful costumes and crazy antics in the ring.

TMZ reports that his brother, Lanny Poffo, is telling the media that Randy suffered a heart attack, which is what made him crash his car. An autopsy will take place soon.

“TMZ spoke with Randy’s brother, Lanny Poffo, who tells us the wrestling legend suffered a heart attack while he was behind the wheel around 9:25 AM... and lost control of his vehicle,” TMZ writes.

Savage was not alone in the car at the time of the accident, though he was the only fatality. His wife Lynn, with whom he’d just celebrated the 1-year anniversary, was in the passenger seat but she got out relatively unscathed.

Both were taken to the hospital: while Lynn was treated for minor injuries, Randy died from his. Both were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

“Florida Highway Patrol tells TMZ, Savage was driving his 2009 Jeep Wrangler when he veered across a concrete median, through oncoming traffic... and ‘collided head-on with a tree’,” the e-zine informs.

As word of Savage’s death got out online, the entire wrestling community went in mourning. Former colleagues Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Hulk Hogan have already issued statements on his passing.

“He had so much life in his eyes & in his spirit, I just pray that he’s happy and in a better place and we miss him,” Hogan writes on his Twitter.

The two had just made peace after a 10-year spat during which they had little to no contact.

“RIP Randy ‘Macho Man’ Savage – you were one of my childhood inspirations and heros. Strength, love and prayers to the Savage/Poffo family,” The Rock says, also on Twitter.
