Robert Rodriguez sure knows how to make his movies more appealing to those people who are not familiar with his work. For “Machete Kills,” his most recent project, a 3D trailer has been made and released online.

Coming Soon has it. The version above is without the awesome 3D effects.

However, aside from the awesomeness of the video, what stands out is the irony in the fact that “Machete Kills” is actually being released in traditional 2D format as of October 11.

So yes, this is a marketing trick, but it’s a pretty impressive one.

“Machete Kills” is the sequel to the exploitation film “Machete,” which was a film Rodriguez created around a character who first appeared in a faux trailer included in “Grindhouse,” his joint project with good friend Quentin Tarantino.

Fans loved Machete so much they petitioned online for him to get his own movie and, eventually, he did. Now, he’s getting a sequel as well.
