Danny Trejo confirms 2 sequels for “Machete”: “Machete Kills” and “Machete Kills Again”

Robert Rodriguez pleasantly surprised his fans when he announced he was making a full “Machete” film starting from the faux-trailer running with “Grindhouse.” And he’s not stopping here either: two more films are on the way.

Bloody Disgusting caught up with leading man Danny Trejo, longtime friend and collaborator of Rodriguez (and also his cousin), who has revealed that, though no official announcement has been made, more “Machete” is on the way.

According to the actor, known for playing awesome bad guys on film, not one but two sequels will be made – and the script for the first one is already finished.

At the same time, this also means that production can start as soon as Rodriguez gives the signal.

“I asked him when he was going to write it and he says it’s written, so we can get started pretty quick,” the actor says for BD of the first sequel.

As noted, there will be two more “Machete” films (for now), and they will be called “Machete Kills” and “Machete Kills Again,” staying true to the whole B-flick vibe of the original pic.

Speaking of which, in the same interview, Trejo admitted he was very surprised by how “Machete” was received. Not only did audiences love it (which was somewhat expected), but critics did too – the film is a 72% certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with top critics.

“We went all over the world with that movie and people kept having me sign these Machete action figures, it was a lot of fun,” Trejo says for BD of the promo tour for the film.

In fact, “Machete” was so well received it probably took Rodriguez himself by surprise – and that’s no small feat.

“I don’t even think Robert Rodriguez even expected that reception and now everyone is waiting for Machete 2 so hurry up Robert Rodriguez!” Trejo adds laughing.
