Taiwanese company Max Xtreme Technology has just announced the new MX-KATANA 6Gb/s Series low-profile SATA3 SSD modules, on its official website.

These are low-profile SSDs with capacities ranging between 240 GB and 480 GB.

MX-Katana SSDs are powered by SanForce’s SF2281 controller and come with the same technologies as all the other SandForce drives.

The main characteristics of the MX-Katana drives are :

Low-profile SATA 3.0 Interface MLC SSD Module
Max. Read Performance up to 510MB/s
Max. Write Performance up to 450MB/s
IOPS up to 60,000
Power consumption: idle 1.6W / active 2.8W  at Voltage=3.3V +/-10%
Life expectancy 2.0 million hours MTBF
Capacity: 240GB (MXSSD3MKAT-240G) and 480GB (MXSSD3MKAT-480G)
Warranty: 2-Years

Notice the fact that Mach Xtreme is pretty honest with its customers and states that the technical specifications are “up to.”

This is the correct way of doing things, especially when it comes to SandForce-based drives as we’ve demonstrated here.

On the other hand, the MX-Katana shows SF2281-like performance and has up to 480 GB capacity in just a gum-packet size.

Pricing has not been made available.
