Coming to give end-users a portable storage solution that is at once fast and capacious, Mach Xtreme has just expanded its series of MX-FX flash drives with the addition of a version that has 16 GB of storage.

For those interested in a reminder, the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 interface is the latest iteration of the Universal Serial Bus standard.

When it was released, it practically caused deep ripples through the sheer fact that it is ten times faster than its predecessor, USB 2.0.

What this means is that the maximum theoretical transfer rate is of 4.8 Gbps (5Gbps), allowing multi-gigabyte files to be copied in very short times.

Like many of its peers, Mach Xtreme adopted this specification some time ago, for some of its product lines, one of which has now been updated.

The series in question is the MX-FX family and has now seen the rise of a member with an internal capacity of 16 GB.

This newcomer is constructed out of MLC (multi-level cell) NAND Flash memory chips.

Measuring 78 (L) x 27 (W) x 9.3 (H) mm and weighing 39 grams, the drive merges the benefits of the interface with those of a sturdy enclosure.

Basically, it is housed inside a tough casing that can stand up to shocks of 1,500 G and vibrations of 20 G.

As for the performance itself, it does not fall short from matching that of its sibling, being capable of reading and writing at very high rates.

To be more specific, reading tasks are accomplished at 125 MB/s, whereas data is written onto the flash chips at 55 MB/s.

Those interested in acquiring this 16 GB flash drive from the Mach Xtreme MX-FX family will be interested in knowing that pre-orders can already be set for the sum of 98.25 Euro.
