For those who aren't yet aware of MacTracker (which in itself is unforgivable), the software provides detailed information on every Apple computer ever made. Whether you are curious about the history and development of a Mac over time, need to know the specifications of any particular Mac, this program was written especially for you. The latest available version is 5.0.3, which adds a lot of new items to the MacTracker database.

The details to every system include items such as processor speed, memory, optical drives, graphic cards, supported Mac OS versions, and expansion options. You can also pull out info on accessories and peripherals such as mice, keyboards, displays, printers, scanners, digital cameras, iPod, Apple TV, iPhone, Wi-Fi Cards/Base Stations, Newton, and, of course, Mac OS versions.

With MacTracker, you can even set your own categories by selecting a specification item such as processor type, date introduced or your color label, while the search engine looks through the entire database, including your comments. What, did I forget to mention the notes you can add?

Why of course you can add a small comment to your favorite items, you didn't expect a nifty app such as this to leave you wandering through its library every time you fire it up, did you? One keystroke is all it takes to sort the results by model name, date, or specification.

As for the notes tab, it allows you to add your own comments, as well as links to Internet addresses, files, and folders that relate to the selected model. Then again, you can use the "My Models" option which pretty much does the same thing, only it lets you add even more details about your computers, such as their serial number, purchase date, and warranty coverage end date.

But enough about MacTracker's features, let's see what version 5.0.3 brings.

Naturally, it adds newer Mac models, namely the iMac - 20-inch Early 2008 and iMac - 24-inch Early 2008, as well as new accessory models, like the AirPort Card and AirPort Extreme Card. Version 5.0.3 also adds "Large Drive Support" info (where available) for iBook models, maximum supported resolution for an external display for iMac models, Fibre Channel card info to Mac Pro models, ENERGY STAR information where available for recent models and more.

You can check the rest of the additions right here, and even download the updated version of the software, if you wish.
