MacTech announced yesterday the release of "Moving from Microsoft Office VBA to AppleScript: MacTech's Guide to Making the Transition", an extensive guide the magazine has been working on for quite some time now.

It's due this spring, along with the April issue of the magazine, and it was made to ease the users' transition from Microsoft Office VBA scripting to AppleScripting Microsoft Office for Mac. Paul Berkovitz, the lead author, says it's intended to be a step-by-step guide to AppleScripting, made to give both experienced VBA developers and regular Office users a "launching point". It is estimated that the guide will have about 150 pages and it will be printed in the super-size edition available early this April.

What should one expect to read about in this guide? Well, you'll be taught how to easily switch to AppleScipting from using VBA and you'll learn about the advantages and downsides brought by this transition, with specific examples for Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Also, the guide contains a dedicated chapter on how to use AppleScript with Entourage.

If you get your hands on this guide, use it 'wisely' for you never know when AppleScripting knowledge will come in handy. AppleScript is the Mac's built-in scripting language. By using AppleScripting, you'll get to reveal Office's true potential for efficiency and speed.

All MacTech Magazine subscribers will receive their usual monthly copy containing this guide with no additional fees. Even if you're not subscribed to the magazine, you'll still be able to buy the guide from newsstands, for its regular price of $8.95. However, the magazine is available in limited quantities, so if you want to be sure you'll get your own copy, it would probably be best for you to subscribe to MacTech.
