Mac mini users have a new update to perform, according to the Cupertino-based company responsible for the Mac operating system. Mac mini EFI Firmware Update 1.2 reportedly improves compatibility with the latest Apple memory kits on Mac mini computers. Adding memory is probably the fastest and easiest way to improve your Mac’s overall performance.

To complete the firmware update process, please follow the instructions in the updater application (/Applications/Utilities/Mac mini EFI Firmware Update.app). The updater will launch automatically when the installation is complete.

Speaking about EFI firmware updates in general, Apple claims users must first learn how to identify if their Intel-based Macintosh computer needs an EFI firmware update. The second step is to apply the EFI firmware update to an Intel-based Macintosh. To determine if one's computer needs an EFI firmware update, users must follow some steps.

First off, find out which version of firmware you have by checking System Profiler. The next step is to compare your firmware version with the version listed in the table of current EFI firmware updates. If your firmware version matches the one listed in the table, Apple asserts that your computer does not require any additional firmware updates.

If, on the other hand, your firmware version does not match the one listed in the table, you should upgrade, Apple says. The Mac maker also asks users to note that some USB and FireWire devices may prevent firmware updates from installing correctly. Therefore, you should disconnect non-essential devices and use only an Apple keyboard and mouse to apply the EFI update. Also, all apps must be quit before proceeding with the installation.
