Security updates are now available for all users of Adobe software, including Adobe Reader, Acrobat, Flash Player, and AIR. The company angry at Apple for not supporting Flash on its iPad has issued security bulletins detailing the addressed vulnerabilities. It encourages everyone relying on its software to update now.

Talking about the issues found in Adobe Reader and Acrobat, Adobe claims that, “A critical vulnerability has been identified in Adobe Reader 9.3 for Windows, Macintosh and UNIX, Adobe Acrobat 9.3 for Windows and Macintosh, and Adobe Reader 8.2 and Acrobat 8.2 for Windows and Macintosh.”

The vulnerability, as explained by Adobe, “could subvert the domain sandbox and make unauthorized cross-domain requests.” Another critical vulnerability could also cause the application to crash, or allow an attacker to take control of the system, it reveals. As a resolution, users of Adobe Reader 9.3 and earlier versions should update to Adobe Reader 9.3.1.

“A critical vulnerability has been identified in Adobe Flash Player version 10.0.42.34 and earlier,” the second bulletin goes to say. “This vulnerability [...] could subvert the domain sandbox and make unauthorized cross-domain requests.” In a similar manner, “Adobe recommends users of Adobe Flash Player 10.0.42.34 and earlier versions [to] update to Adobe Flash Player 10.0.45.2.” The company also advises those who rely on AIR to update to Adobe AIR 1.5.3.9130. Adobe categorizes all these issues as critical, and recommends that affected users update their software to the newest versions.

To verify the software version number installed on your system, access the About menu from within each Adobe application. If your software version is lower than the one recommended by Adobe to install, you should have an “affected” system, making it imperative that you download and install the new release over your current one.
