I'll tell you... it's Apple

So... Mac Sepukku Sayonara. This one I have to explain. And I don't even know what to begin with. Oh, well... Let's begin with Apple. Apple managed to create some hilarious anti-Microsoft video advertisements. You know... the "I'm a Mac" vs. "I'm a PC," where the Mac guy is cool and vibrant while the PC guy is boring, old and geeky... Well Apple did the Japanese versions of those video advertisements. And let me tell you, the result has to be in the top of the ha-ha meters.

This leads me back to the starring point. I did say Japanese versions of Apple commercials, did I not? Well, "sepukku" and "sayonara" are about the only Japanese words in my vocabulary. Well, at least the only ones I manage to write down, although I have probably misspelled something...

You can watch all the Japanese variants of the Mac/PC advertisements following this link. This is the way I did it initially, raw, no subtitle. And it killed me. But I also managed to track down some translated versions of the video adds on YouTube. They are embedded at the bottom so enjoy.

The fact of the matter is that I fail to distinguish any real difference between the two Japanese actors. They both look equally PC to me... or equally Mac, take it however you want. I know where Apple was going with this, but they failed to drive the point through. Failed by a long shot.

And apparently also managed to alienate the Japanese customers, because of a completely different system of values, according to data from YouGov's BrandIndex. Apparently, in Japan it is considered cool to wear a suit and be geeky. Who would have ever thought!
