It seems that the new replacement for the iBooks are well on their way, according to Think Secret and AppleInsider.
According to an AppleInsider report, development of the 13-inch widescreen portables was concluded some time last month, and since then, the company has been waiting for the marketing department to give the green light and begin manufacturing and rollout procedures. It looks like that green light came and Apple began building the
new portables sometimes last week, with Asustek handling production.
Each of the new MacBooks is expected to have Core Duo processors and be equipped with novelties such as completely magnetic latching system, built in iSight video camera, and MagSafe power adapter. Like the other new Apple machines, they are expected to come bundled with Apple's Front Row and PhotoBooth software applications.
"An official announcement remains on track for 'this month' with the possibility that Apple will hold a press conference to usher in the notebooks next Tuesday," AppleInsider reports.
Interestingly enough, Think Secret also sings the same tune, in an update on an existing story.
"Additional sources have confirmed the MacBook's announcement this Tuesday. Further, sources report that the MacBook will be thinner than current iBooks, will be available in both black and white configurations, and will likely cost slightly more than previous iBook models-not unlike the price increase Apple's Mac mini saw with its transition to Intel processors," Think Secret reports.
