Users say Apple had better done nothing, rather than include such insignificant updates

Lou Borella, the Italian graphic animator who started a Facebook petition to get Apple to spit out some details about the Mac Pro, is lost for words following Apple’s quiet speed bump on the professional workstations starting at $2,499 for the cheapest model.

Speaking for the 18,000 petitioners who hit the “like” button on his petition, Borella writes:

"I'm still at a loss. They would have been better off keeping us in the dark. We would have banked on those leaked SKU numbers and waited, trusting in the rumors.”

“By releasing this half-hearted update I now know that new machines are at least 6 months away. No company would release new products any closer than that."

"Now more than ever they need to communicate their position if they care at all about what we think. [...] I'm really at a loss for words.”

Some believe the 133 Mhz CPU speed bump and lower price is not even a half-hearted update, but downright a mockery on behalf of the Cupertino, California-based computer vendor.

“...actually it’s the 2010 Mac Pro with 133 Mhz CPU speed bump, and lower price,” writes technology blogger Oskar Groth. “If that’s not a spit in the face, I don’t know what is.”

He adds, “R.I.P Mac Pro,” suggesting he doesn’t expect Apple to upgrade the machines, but rather to axe them altogether.

Indeed, that seems to be the case with the Mac Pro, as Apple has been reluctant to upgrade the computer for more than two years.

The new versions now immediately available from the Apple online store haven’t been equipped with USB 3.0 ports, nor do they boast Thunderbolt – two ubiquitous connection standards across the entire Mac lineup starting this year.

As it stands, there seems to be no intention in Cupertino to have the Mac Pro upgraded to these specs. Perhaps the rumored rack-mountable version is still on the table for a future release.
