NVIDIA is extending its Macintosh offerings with the official introduction of its NVIDIA Quadro professional graphics solution for Mac Pro, “bringing the computational and visualization breakthroughs enabled by NVIDIA Fermi architecture,” the company said today. Priced at $1,199, the NVIDIA Quadro 4000 will be purchasable from Apple’s online store this month.

According to the Santa Clara, California-based GPU maker, the NVIDIA Quadro 4000 graphics processing unit for Mac is optimized to accelerate workflows and drive a range of top professional applications.

The company provides a relevant example for those looking to upgrade their Mac Pros this month, saying that the Adobe Mercury Playback Engine in Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 software leverages NVIDIA’s CUDA parallel processing technology inside the Quadro 4000.

It follows with a statement from the Flash makers themselves, citing Ginna Baldassarre, senior product manager at Adobe, as saying:

“Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 and the Adobe Mercury Playback Engine, accelerated by NVIDIA Quadro GPUs, have redefined the non-linear editing workflow, delivering huge productivity gains.”

“Adobe looks forward to working with NVIDIA to help more Mac users reap the benefits of real-time performance and the ability to create compelling, multi-layer projects with multiple HD or higher resolution video clips, all while instantly viewing results,” Ginna Baldassarre said.

Labeled as a high-end graphics solution, the NVIDIA Quadro 4000 GPU for Mac boasts no less than 256 NVIDIA CUDA processing cores and 2GB of fast GDDR5 memory, which allows it to deliver exceptional performance across a broad range resource-demanding applications.

The Quadro 4000 GPU for Mac features DisplayPort, a DVI-I (Dual Link) connector built into its bracket, as well as a 3D stereo bracket for optimal stereo connection to the Mac Pro.

The graphics card ships with a DisplayPort to mini-DisplayPort cable for those who own a mini-DisplayPort-only Apple display.
