This time

The next operating system for Mac computers is here! Forget about Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger! Forget about the Leopard mirage! The world's most advanced Windows operating system is here. Install Windows Vista on your Mac today!

That was a tad uncalled for, but I simply could not help myself. Apple has announced that it will delay the release of the world's most advanced and still advancing operating system until October 2007. But I guess that the Cupertino-based company can take a break and put the development of Leopard on hold. Windows Vista is here to fill in its shoes. And they're not big shoes to fill, approximately six percent of the operating system market.

This time the rumor mill was right on track when it reported that Leopard will only see the light of day in the fall of 2007. Apple originally planned to unveil the final version of Leopard at the Worldwide Developers Conference in early June. However, it was wrong about one small aspect. Windows Vista had nothing to do with it. Nothing at all.

Apple simply had a shift of priorities. Leopard will not be released to the public in late spring 2007, but all the way in October. Apple has gone on a sabbatical from building operating systems and it's focusing instead on iPhone.

Right... Apple traded off delivering Leopard, an operating system designed and addressed to 6% of the global operating system market for a $500 - $600 mobile phone that is yet to sell a single piece. Just imagine what would have happened if Microsoft had announced another Windows Vista delay, because they were building Zune. But on the other hand Apple has proven how much Mac customers are worth to it. And it's good that there's Windows Vista to fill in the gap. If I were a Mac user, I'd start downloading Boot Camp right about now.
