Mac OS X Goes Higher

Although we're in 2007 now, we'll keep looking back for a while, especially when it's about statistics and market analysis conducted by specialized firms. Today, we'll talk about the operating systems market share for last December, and I must say that things look really interesting for Apple.

According to Net Applications, a research firm that estimates web traffic and browser usage, Mac OS based systems have 5.67 percent of the operating system market covered, 1.52 of this number being represented by Intel-based Macs. Although way behind Windows XP, a system that owns 85.3 percent of the market, Mac OS X is slowly gaining ground online. Don't let yourselves tricked by the above numbers, because I have seen some interesting results in this report we're talking about...

While Windows XP has 85.30 and Windows 2000, exactly 5 percent of the market, Mac OS, with 4.15, is above Windows 98, ME and NT, systems that account for 1.77, 0.89, respectively 0.68 percent of the operating systems market share. Another surprising fact for me was to see that Linux is just below Windows NT, with 0.37 percent, but above Windows Vista, that has only 0.16 percent, but I am sure things will change a lot until next December.

On the other hand, the browsers market share sees Internet Explorer slowly going down, but still the leader, with 79.64 percent of the total market share, Firefox coming slowly but surely up to reach 14 percent, and Safari takes the third place with 4.24 percent. To be honest, I was surprised to see Opera having only 0.87 percent of the market under control, but nobody says this report is 100% accurate, and the future lies ahead, so...
