DivX 7 includes support for high-definition H.264 (.mkv) videos with AAC audio and videos created using all previous versions of the DivX technology. (It goes without saying, but just to be on the safe side, that) DivX enables users to play their DivX files (.divx, .avi) on a myriad of DivX-certified devices.
With the release of DivX 7.0.1 for Mac OS X, the video-playback software suite now supports DivX Plus files (.mkv/H.264/AAC) and has an updated user interface (UI). DivX Codec 6.8.3 has been updated, as well, according to the release notes. The codec now offers up to 50% faster decoding on multi-core computers for a better HD Playback, as well as new, custom matrices that allow for the better fine-tuning of the encoder for specific content type, according to the developers.
DivX Converter 1.3.1, included with the DivX 7 download, “has been updated to work on Leopard (and to work in general),” the changelog says. Sadly for PowerPC users, DivX for Mac 7 is now officially supported on Intel machines only. As such, minimum system requirements for DivX for Mac version 7.0 (and above) include Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger), an Intel CPU running at 1GHz (or faster), and at least 512MB of RAM.

In related news, DivX, Inc. has announced a licensing agreement for the next-generation DivX Plus HD technology, by teaming up with Realtek Semiconductor, one of the world's leading network and computer peripheral integrated-circuit providers. Under the agreement, Realtek will incorporate the DivX Plus HD technology into the Realtek RTD1283/RTD1073 semiconductor chips, enabling devices to play back DivX Plus HD video in the MKV container at up to 1080p (HD).
