It’s been a while since Agile Web Solutions, now AgileBits, talked broadly about their powerful password manager and form-filler, 1Password. Six months to be precise. Today, the company’s co-founder has a few announcements to make.

AgileBits Co-Founder, Dave Teare is happy to let everyone know that, since their last major release of 1Password, there have been many Mac and Windows updates.

Specifically, there have been over 150 changes on Mac and almost 100 changes on the Windows version of the software.

However, today’s news is not about that. It’s about OS X Lion. Apparently, 1Password fully supports Apple’s upcoming OS, out-of-the box, as they say.

“I'm excited to announce 1Password now supports Lion!”, Teare writes in an email sent out to subscribers.

Those who are using a pre-release version of OS X 10.7 are encouraged to give this post a read.

“If you plan on waiting for the official release of Lion (coming next month) you can rest easy that 1Password is ready,” he confirms.

Another piece of information concerning the Mac install base of 1Password is that OS X Leopard users will requires 1Password 3.5.

“Now that Lion (OS X 10.7) and Snow Leopard (10.6) are supported, new features will not be developed for older versions of OS X,” Teare writes.

He notes that OS X 10.5 Leopard users are free to continue using 1Password 3.5.

The company will continue to offer the same level of support to Leopard users who are also assured that their data will continue to sync between 1Password 3.5 and 3.6.

Just to make it clear for everyone, starting with version 3.6, 1Password requires either OS X 10.7 Lion or OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard.

Teare also jots down a few lines about his company’s new name, AgileBits (formerly Agile Web Solutions).

“Our old name served us well for many years but it was feeling a little stodgy and did not represent our focus on writing awesome apps.”

“After a long search, we loved AgileBits. It's easy to type, made our designer happy, and is a lot more fun! I hope you love the new name as much as we do,” Teare concludes.
