People familiar with Apple’s OS X development have leaked information as to what we can expect from future incremental updates to OS X Lion, the latest version of Apple’s desktop operating system.

The future of Mac OS X, according to the knowledgeable people talking to 9to5mac, is AirPlay Mirroring and iMessage, two services currently available in iOS, Apple’s mobile operating system powering iPhones, iPads, and iPod touch players. The latest version of Lion is OS X 10.7.2.

AirPlay Mirroring lets you wirelessly stream whatever's on your iPad 2 or iPhone 4S to your HDTV via Apple TV. iMessage allows iDevice owners to text each other without paying the operator fees (so long as they’re connected to the internet).

The two features are said to be ‘definitely on the tablet’ for a future Lion update, but that there’s also a chance they may never see the light of day on Mac OS X. If they do get implemented, the corporate segment will benefit greatly.
