Parallels has announced an update for their flagship Mac product, Parallels Desktop for Mac, which strengthens compatibility with the newest version of Snow Leopard - Mac OS X 10.6.8.

According to the software company, Parallels Desktop version 6.0.12092 improves compatibility with Mac OS X v10.6.8 and includes a fix that resolves an issue with Finder and the Dock being unresponsive while working with icons larger than 128x128 px created by Parallels Desktop.

The virtualization experts ask users to note that some of their shared application icons may be reset to the default Parallels Desktop icon, when installing this update.

If this happens, they will look so “until you upgrade Parallels Tools in the virtual machine,” Parallels Inc. said.

Mac OS X 10.6.8 is the latest version of Apple’s Snow Leopard operating system.

It was released last week with the main goal to add full support for upgrading to OS X Lion, the next major release of the Mac OS.

Mac OS X 10.6.8 will allow users to access the Mac App Store and download the new Mac OS X 10.7 and seamlessly install it over their current OS.

The latest Snow Leopard version is actually a requirement to have Lion installed.

Now that Parallels supports it, there’s a good change the virtualization solution will support Lion out-of-the-box.

“Parallels Desktop for Mac is simply the world’s bestselling, top-rated, and most trusted solution for running Windows applications on your Mac,” said Parallels officials in a statement on their website.

“With Parallels Desktop for Mac, you can seamlessly run both Windows and Mac OS X applications side-by-side with speed, control and confidence […] like they were native to your Mac.”

While there are free alternatives out there, none equals Parallels in performance and functionality.
