Apple is believed to have planned an early release of its Mac App Store, while end users will most likely see Mac OS X 10.6.6 even sooner, going by a report covering the topic.

Earlier today, Softpedia was pleased to inform its readers that, according to an unnamed source talking to appletell.com, Apple wants an early release of the Mac App Store.

According to this alleged “inside source,” Steve Jobs originally militated for a pre-December 6 launch. With this deadline now passed, December 13th is said to be the date Apple has its eyes on.

Now, a report by Cult of Mac mentions an interesting tidbit in that Mac OS X 10.6.6 is tied to the forthcoming release of Apple’s Mac App Store.

The blog recalls that Apple released another beta of OS X 10.6.6 just last week. The build, labeled 10J537, contains “developer support for fetching and renewing App Store receipts,” according to the report.

Moreover, members of Apple’s developer community (who had received the update straight from Apple) signaled that they had reason to believe the new seed was a Golden Master release.

All this adds to indicate an imminent release of Mac OS X 10.6.6 - the forthcoming sixth incremental software update to Apple’s Snow Leopard desktop operating system.

While still a maintenance release, OS X 10.6.6 will mostly be focused on adding support for Apple’s new Mac App Store which, even if today’s rumor is false, should see the light of day no later than January 2011.

The system update will undoubtedly incorporate the usual bag of tweaks and fixes, including patches to the most recently discovered security flaws in OS X.

Apple is also gearing up to launch Mac OS X Lion next year. The next-generation desktop OS will feature multiple UI-related enhancements, and will come with built-in support for the Mac App Store.
