Parallels has shipped a new version of its powerful virtualization software for Mac, Parallels Desktop 6.0.11828. The new version, released to the public this past weekend, brings compatibility with Apple’s yet-unreleased Mac OS X 10.6.5, an update to its Snow Leopard operating system.

Parallels Desktop 6 for Mac enables users to create virtual machines on Macs equipped with Intel processors.

Customers can install Windows, Linux, or other operating systems in what is referred to as “virtual machines,” and work with them side by side with Mac OS X.

To enhance users’ experience of running more than one operating system on their Mac, Parallels Desktop includes several utilities that enable seamless integration between the Mac and the virtual machine, the ability to move files from a PC to a Mac, as well as the possibility of accessing virtual machine files and folders without starting the actual guest OS.

With Apple on track to release Mac OS X 10.6.5 momentarily, Parallels Inc. is making sure that its popular virtualization solution is able to handle the new version of Apple’s operating system as a host, by launching Parallels Desktop 6.0.11828.

According to the official documentation (Parallels Desktop 6 for Mac Read Me and Release Notes - PDF), adding Mac OS X 10.6.5 compatibility is the sole purpose of this update.

"WHAT'S NEW IN BUILD 6.0.11828 Parallels Desktop (build 6.0.11828) resolves compatibility issues with Mac OS X 10.6.5."

A pre-release build of Mac OS X 10.6.5 is known to have been dropped on developers’ laps early last week, followed by a surprise beta seed later through the week, indicating that last minute changes were necessary.

Although development progress has not been reported as of the last seed, Mac OS X 10.6.5 is expected to arrive this week in its final, stable form via the built-in Software Update mechanism on every customers’ Macintosh.
