The blogger getting attention for a post regarding Mac OS X 10.6.2 this week has now issued an update saying that the Atom architecture is still supported on Snow Leopard (for Hackintosh purposes). Whether or not the move was a trick to grab everyone's attention remains to be confirmed. However, while Stell (the blogger) talks of a certain Mac OS X 10.6.2 Build 10C535, more reliable sources have confirmed that Build 10C540 has been handed to developers with new fixes and focus areas.

“In the current developer build of 10.6.2, Apple appears to have changed around a lot of CPU related information,” Stell’s original post, which spawned a flurry of reports saying Mac OS X 10.6.2 had killed Atom support, read. “One of the effects of this is Apple killing off Intel’s Atom chip,” the post continued to point out.

“Here are Atom users' future options…,” Stell continued, “A) Stay with Leopard 10.5.8 (10.5.9 might have the same effect as 10.6.2); B) Stay with Snow Leopard 10.6.1; C) Upgrade to 10.6.2 and use either the stock 10.0.0 kernel or use modded Snow kernels. Among other things, Sleepenabler.KEXT is now ineffective and will need a new version. It is now suggested to run CPUPM with a proper DSDT.”

An update on Stell's blog now reads, “Wow, didn't expect to get linked all over the internet for this damn post. Anyways, in the latest development build Atom appears to have resurrected itself zombie style in 10C535. The Atom lives another day, but nothing is concrete until the final version of 10.6.2 is out.”

The blog doesn’t reveal exactly when Stell edited / updated his post. However, it has been confirmed that Mac OS X 10.6.2 10C540 is currently the newest developer build of Snow Leopard. It is now in the hands of Apple’s select developers.
