Apple has seeded yet another build of the second incremental update to Snow Leopard, Mac OS X 10.6.2. In bare bones Delta form, AppleInsider reports, Mac OS X 10.6.2 weighs in at close to 500MB, while the public release is expected next month, people familiar with Apple’s plans tell the site.

Citing its usually reliable sources, AppleInsider reveals that Mac OS X 10.6.2 Build 10C531 asks developers to continue to focus their attention on graphics drivers, as well as on TrackPad preferences and the ability to create virtual machines. People familiar with the matter say that, “Documentation accompanying build 10C535 reportedly lists no known issues,” as was the case with last week's beta (Mac OS X 10.6.2 Build 10C531).

A total of 148 components have been modified so far, according to these sources, “[Yet] Apple has temporarily ceased its practice of providing a running list of bug fixes that will come baked into the impending release.” Components listed in the report include AppleBacklight, Battery Menu, Dictionary, Expose, FileSync, Family Controls, Fonts, Front Row, HFS, Inkwell, iPhoto, MobileMe, OpenCL, Parental Controls, QuickTime, Screen Sharing, Spell Checker, Spotlight, Time Machine, and USB.

Mac OS X 10.6.2 also aims to fix a severe yet rare issue affecting a handful of users upgrading from Leopard to Snow Leopard. The issue, acknowledged and addressed by Apple in OS X 10.6.2 test build 10C527f, occurs when the user logs into the 'guest' account, then logs back out of the account, and back into their normal one. Many reported that, not only had their settings been reset, but, in most cases, all data had been erased. The home directory would still appear under “/Users/username,” but those affected reported that it was completely empty.

The 10.6.2 maintenance and security update will also deliver enhanced compatibility between older Macintosh computers and Apple’s new Magic mouse. However, those who’ve already purchased the device can download and install Wireless Mouse Software Update 1.0 for Leopard or Snow Leopard.
