On May 10, Apple seeded the second Public Beta of the upcoming OS X 10.10.4 Yosemite operating system to Mac users worldwide. Tagged as build 14E17e, this pre-release version is also the third Beta version of Mac OS X 10.10.4 Yosemite for developers.

Once again, Apple did not provide us with any information about what's new in the OS X 10.10.4 Yosemite (14E17e) Public Beta software update, except for the fact that it improves the compatibility, stability, and security of your Mac.

The good news, however, is that we are getting closer and closer to a final release of Mac OS X 10.10.4 Yosemite, which should see the light of day in the coming months. Looking at the Mac OS X 10.10.3 Yosemite update, we can expect to see at least six or seven Betas until the final version.

Here's how to update to OS X 10.10.4 Yosemite Public Beta (14E17e)

If you're new to this, you should first go to the OS X Beta Program website and sign up for a free Public Beta testing account. Then, make sure that you are logged in with that account on your Mac and check the App Store app for updates, but keep in mind that you won't be able to return to OS X 10.10.3 Yosemite.

You should see the "Pre-release: OS X 10.10.4 Yosemite 10.10.4 (14E17e)" software update as being available, so click the "Update" button in front of it to start the update process. You will have to accept the license agreement, then press the "Download & Restart" button to start the update process.

Finally, after a successful download, which might take a while depending on your Internet connection, your Mac will be automatically rebooted for the OS X 10.10.4 Yosemite Public Beta (14E17e) software update to be applied correctly. That's it!
